United States President Donald Trump said that indirect peace talks regarding Iran are going well, and progress is being made. Trump made the comments on Wednesday, as U.S. and Iranian officials resumed talks in Qatar, via mediators, telling reporters “the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well.”
According to a report by CBS News, Qatar and Pakistan said Thursday that “positive progress was made” during the indirect talks between the US and Iran in Doha, Qatar’s capital, “regarding issues related to the memorandum of understanding” that continued the Iran war ceasefire.
Former Trump national security adviser H.R. McMaster said that progress is being made only because the US lifted sanctions on Iranian oil and has floated unfreezing Iranian assets. The US ruling class says that the inflow of money into Iran made it possible for the indirect meetings to move forward on a path of progression.
“They’re getting the infusion of cash they desperately needed to get themselves up off the mat,” McMaster was quoted as saying. “The Iranians have come a long way because they’re getting everything that they wanted.”
McMaster, who is also a CBS News contributor, believes Trump’s initial decision to go to war with Iran was the right one.
But Iran had a warning for the US. Tehran said that the US and Israel should avoid launching any strikes as the country prepares for the state funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in airstrikes on the first day of the war. It only took a day for Iran to confirm Khamenei’s death.

Meanwhile, Trump praised the progress made during the talks, telling reporters that the “denuclearization of Iran is moving along well” and that “very good meetings” were held in Qatar as he and his vice president played down any suggestion of a return to all-out combat, according to a report by The Independent.
A few days ago, the US and Iran exchanged strikes, and it appeared that any ceasefire deal was over. Both sides blamed the other for violating the agreement.
