Deputies pursued James Mitchell Kerr, 41, who attempted to evade law enforcement on a riding lawnmower before pulling a handgun, ultimately injuring himself.
The confrontation began when Deputy Robert Henderson attempted to apprehend Kerr for failing to pay child support, a probation violation. When instructed to dismount the lawnmower, Kerr accelerated instead, prompting a brief chase. Kerr eventually stopped in a ditch, but the situation escalated when he retrieved a black handgun from the mower’s seat.
Henderson deployed his Taser just as Kerr drew the firearm. As the suspect collapsed from the Taser’s effects, a gunshot rang out—Kerr had accidentally shot himself in the hand. Henderson swiftly secured the scene, calling for backup to assist.
