UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Motive: Writings Found On Spent Casings At Scene

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in Midtown Manhattan in what police are calling a targeted attack. Cryptic words on shell casings and evidence left at the scene are key to the ongoing investigation.

NEW YORK, NY (1-minute read) — UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was tragically shot to death in a premeditated attack early Wednesday morning outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel. The gunman, masked and seemingly prepared for the encounter, fired at Thompson from close range, delivering additional shots after the victim fell. Police are now working to unravel the cryptic words found on shell casings at the scene—”deny,” “defend,” and “depose”—which may point to the shooter’s motive.

Thompson, 50, was in New York for a widely publicized investors conference hosted by his company. Surveillance footage reveals the suspect waited for Thompson to exit his hotel before carrying out the attack. After the shooting, the gunman fled into Central Park, abandoning a phone and potentially incriminating evidence, including a water bottle and candy wrapper, at the scene.

Law enforcement officials believe the attack stemmed from a grudge against the insurance company rather than personal animosity. While investigators emphasize that the shooter is unlikely a professional, they continue to examine Thompson’s recent interactions for clues. The FBI has joined the effort, utilizing advanced technology to retrieve data from the abandoned cellphone.

According to reports, police believe they are getting closer to finding out the identity of the suspect.

Thompson’s family expressed their grief in a heartfelt statement, remembering him as a loving father and colleague. His death marks a significant loss for both his family and the business community. UnitedHealthcare called for patience as the investigation continues.

Safety Tip: When attending events or traveling for business, maintain awareness of your surroundings. Share your schedule only with trusted individuals and consider hiring security if your role makes you a potential target.
