ARGENTA, ILLINOIS — Two fugitives who collided with a police car during a pursuit were arrested after separate confrontations with armed homeowners. The incident, which unfolded around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, began when Macon County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspicious, previously stolen vehicle at Casey’s General Store in Argenta. As deputies approached, the vehicle, containing James Snow, 34, and Tyler Crum, 33, rammed into a squad car and fled. Despite an initial chase, deputies lost sight of the vehicle.
The search expanded with the involvement of Maroa police and other law enforcement agencies. The vehicle was eventually located, wrecked in a farm field. Following witness tips, deputies found that the suspects had attempted to seek refuge in nearby homes. However, both men were met with armed homeowners. One suspect was detained at the first location, while the other was confronted and held at gunpoint at a second residence until police arrived.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office commended the homeowners for their firearm proficiency and aid in apprehending the suspects. James Snow, detained at the Macon County Jail, faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting police, in addition to a parole violation. Tyler Crum, who was granted pretrial release, faces similar charges including aggravated battery to a peace officer. These preliminary charges await review by the state’s attorney’s office.
