Armed Homeowner Turns the Tables on Armed Intruder in Kentucky

CADIZ, KY — A self-defense incident unfolded in the early hours of July 20, 2024, in Trigg County, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Austin Gardner of Cadiz. The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 has identified Gardner as the individual who entered the residence of Cody Parker, 21, also of Cadiz.

The Kentucky State Police received a call shortly after midnight, requesting their assistance from the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a shooting at a home on Linda Lane. According to preliminary investigations, Gardner forcibly entered Parker’s residence, armed with a weapon. During the confrontation, Gardner forced his way into a room within the home, where Parker, the homeowner, acted in self-defense and shot Gardner. Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Detective Nate Moore is continuing the investigation.

This incident highlights the importance of home defense preparedness. Knowing how to react quickly and effectively in a home invasion scenario can be crucial. Homeowners should ensure they have a clear plan and understand the local laws regarding self-defense.
