RANCHO CORDOVA, CA – A 25-year-old man was shot after attempting to break into a home in Sacramento County on Thursday night, according to authorities.

As reported by KCRA, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of Hunt Drive. The man reportedly tried to force his way into the residence and threatened to kill one of the people inside.

The homeowner called 911 after repeatedly telling the individual to leave the property. Authorities said the situation escalated when the suspect broke a window in an apparent attempt to gain entry into the home.

According to deputies, the homeowner then shot the suspect. Responding deputies arrived on scene, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Friday morning.

Authorities said the man was known to the victims.

More from USA Carry:

This incident highlights a situation many homeowners fear. When someone forces entry into a home while making threats of violence, it can quickly become a life-threatening encounter. In those moments, individuals may be forced to make immediate decisions to protect themselves or others from serious harm.

The Second Amendment affirms the fundamental right of Americans to protect themselves and their families in moments exactly like this one. When law enforcement cannot arrive in time, a lawfully armed homeowner may be the only line of defense between a credible threat and a tragedy.
