NEW YORK, NY — A 44-year-old man armed with a machete attacked three senior citizens inside Grand Central Terminal on April 11, 2026, before being shot and killed by police, according to authorities.

The attack began around 9:30 a.m. inside the Midtown Manhattan transit hub. Police identified the attacker as Anthony Griffin of the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx. Police described the incident as a random attack on strangers.

According to the NYPD, Griffin went upstairs inside the station to the platform serving the 4, 5, and 6 trains. There, he slashed a 70-year-old woman on the shoulder. He then stabbed a 65-year-old man, who sustained similar injuries.

As Griffin attacked a third victim, an 84-year-old man who suffered lacerations to his head, police arrived on scene and shot him. Griffin was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

All three victims were hospitalized with serious injuries. Each of them was a senior citizen.

More from USA Carry:

Griffin had 13 prior arrests. Friends who spoke with local reporters said he had a history of mental health issues. He was known in the Bronx freestyle rap scene under the stage name “Fox 5.”

This attack is a direct illustration of why the Second Amendment is a fundamental civil right. Three elderly people were targeted by a violent attacker with a deadly weapon in a location where lawful concealed carry remains out of reach for most New Yorkers. When an armed attacker begins cutting people in a crowded transit hub, seconds decide outcomes, and the victims here had no practical means of defending themselves.

Police arrived in time to stop the attack from continuing, and the officer’s use of deadly force met the standard of lawful defense against an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. That same legal standard applies to any lawfully armed citizen forced to defend themselves or others from a violent attacker. The right to keep and bear arms exists precisely because violent encounters can occur anywhere, at any time, with little warning.
