Kentucky Sheriff Shoots Judge In Cold Blood (Video)

A newly released surveillance video shows the tragic moment when Kentucky Sheriff Shawn Stines pointed a gun at Judge Kevin Mullins before fatally shooting him.

LETCHER COUNTY, KY (2-minute read) — Recently released courtroom surveillance footage reveals the moment Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines, 43, fatally shot District Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, inside his chambers on September 19th. The chilling video captures what appears to be a heated exchange before Stines draws a firearm and points it directly at the seated judge. Mullins raises his hands and attempts to turn away, but the sheriff opens fire, striking the judge multiple times.

Mullins initially sought refuge under his desk, but the sheriff moved closer and shot him twice at point-blank range. The footage, which was presented during a preliminary hearing, shows Stines walking out of the chambers following the fatal shots.

From where I sit, this looks like an execution.

Detective Clayton Stamper testified that Stines immediately surrendered after the incident, telling law enforcement, “They’re trying to kidnap my wife and kid.” Investigators are examining a possible motive involving a sex scandal, though the exact details remain unclear. According to Stamper, Stines made several phone calls to his daughter using both his and Mullins’ phones shortly before the shooting.

It’s been reported that the sheriff and judge had been friends for decades, having lunch together just hours before the tragic event. Their relationship, however, may have been strained by recent developments that are still under investigation. Authorities seized both Stines’ and Mullins’ cell phones for further analysis.

Stines, who recently announced his retirement as sheriff, has been charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty and is currently being held at Leslie County Jail, with the case set to go before a grand jury for indictment.

Safety Tip: When carrying a firearm for self-defense, always prioritize situational awareness and avoid confrontations whenever possible. Use your firearm as a last resort only when your life is in immediate danger.
