Halloween Home Invasion Ends in Fatal Shooting at Tulsa Apartment Complex

TULSA, OK — A late-night break-in at a South Tulsa apartment complex turned deadly on Halloween after a resident reportedly shot and killed an intruder who forced his way into the unit.

Tulsa Police responded to the Crossing at Silver Oaks Apartments near 71st Street and Yale Avenue around 11:50 p.m. on October 31 following multiple reports of gunfire. According to police, callers described hearing approximately 20 gunshots and seeing a man lying on the ground outside an apartment door with a firearm nearby.

Upon arrival, officers found 20-year-old Jamond Silas deceased at the scene, positioned near the entrance of the apartment. A man at the scene immediately identified himself to police as the shooter, stating that he acted in self-defense after Silas allegedly kicked in the apartment door and entered the residence.

The man was taken in for questioning and later released. Tulsa Police noted that all findings in the case will be presented to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether any charges are appropriate.

In Oklahoma, residents are permitted to use deadly force under the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law if they reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm.
