Albuquerque Teen Kills Mother's Ex in Self-Defense at Local Apartment Complex

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A tense confrontation at The Ridge apartments ended fatally when an 18-year-old man allegedly shot his mother’s ex-boyfriend in self-defense early Saturday morning, according to Albuquerque Police Department officials.

The incident, which police are investigating as a justifiable homicide, occurred just before 8:30 a.m. near Tramway and Copper NE. The Albuquerque Journal reported that the young man acted in defense as the armed ex-boyfriend threatened to kill family members.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the ex-boyfriend deceased from gunshot wounds. The son was taken into custody for questioning following the altercation.

“This appears to be a case of self-defense,” Perdue stated, highlighting the ongoing investigation to ascertain the full details of the confrontation.

Residents of The Ridge apartments expressed shock and concern over the violence, though many did not wish to speak on the record.
