5 Victims In 30 Minutes, Suspect Unknown

A Charlotte shooting spree which was random in nature, occurred early Tuesday, leaving multiple victims and a community in fear. CMPD has stepped up patrols and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.

CHARLOTTE, NC (6-minute read) — Early Tuesday morning in Charlotte, a gunman went on a terrifying 30-minute shooting spree that left multiple victims and a community in fear. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is still searching for the suspect and has announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Charlotte shooting spree began at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Statesville Avenue when Mustaffa Muhammad, 58, was shot and killed inside his car as he returned home from work. This tragic incident was just the beginning of a series of shootings that would spread fear and chaos throughout the area.

Over the next 30 minutes, four more shootings occurred, ending with bullets striking an apartment complex on Nations Ford Road. Residents like Leticia Sandoval were left shaken and fearful. Sandoval recounted the harrowing experience of bullets penetrating her apartment, narrowly missing her sleeping daughter. “It’s a miracle,” she said, expressing gratitude that no one in her family was physically harmed. However, the psychological impact has been profound, disrupting their daily lives and sense of security.

The Charlotte shooting spree continued when a shooter drove up to a group of people on Catherine Simmons Avenue and opened fire. A woman inside her apartment was struck in the shoulder, with the bullet still lodged inside her. Another man narrowly escaped injury when bullets missed him and hit his drink containers instead.

Further along LaSalle Street, a bicyclist was targeted, and a man’s car was struck by gunfire. In response to these alarming events, CMPD has intensified patrols and prioritized the investigation. Officers have returned to the neighborhoods to ensure no evidence was overlooked and to review any footage captured by doorbell cameras.

The same type of ammunition was used in all four shootings, but it’s a common caliber that can be fired from various firearms, making it challenging to trace. As a precaution, officers have advised residents to stay indoors after dark.

This series of random, violent acts has left Charlotte residents on edge, fearing for their safety and hoping for a swift resolution. Let’s hope that this Charlotte shooting spree was a one-time thing, and that the suspect will be caught and brought to justice.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings, especially after dark. Make sure to report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement immediately and consider installing security cameras around your home for added protection.
