KNIFE Magazine’s Knife News – March 2024 Edition

Hey everyone. I shoot for the 15th, but I am on a family vacation, and it seems like a good thing to post to refresh the top of the homepage.

Every month I am responsible for pulling together our Knife News column, and we want to share it with you all while it is still relatively current.

Of course our Print Subscribers have had this for a couple of weeks, and our Premium Online members have been able to access it for about a week now.

Hogue Knives expands Collector’s Series at SHOT Show 2024

Hogue Knives is already a premium USA brand, but their Collector’s Series knives are for that portion of their consumer base who is looking for a tool that is something more than just functional. Their 3 prior Collector’s knives, Deka, Counterstrike, and Sig K320, were all upgraded versions popular existing models. The Hogue Mysto is the first knife designed specifically as a Collector’s release.

Designed by Hogue’s Lead Engineer Scott Bruhns, the USA Made Mysto is a titanium handled folder utilizing Hogue’s cross-bar ABLE Lock. While Hogue did technically release the Cerakote’ed Tanto version in 2023, the new stone tumbled clip-point made it’s debut at SHOT Show 2024. The knife is fully ambidextrous, both in the crossbar lock, as well as the reversible deep carry pocket clip. (MSRP $329.95)

Also joining Hogue’s lineup for 2024 is a larger version of their Ballista auto which is being added to their HK series. The Ballista XL bumps the S30V blade from 3.5” to 3.75” and the closed length from 4.5” to an even 5”. MSRPs are $279.95 for the half-serrated tanto, and $269.95 of the plain-edged drop point.

One can reach Hogue Knives by calling 1-800-438-4747, or by visiting www.hogueknives.com.

SOG Debuts latest Willumsen design at SHOT Show

For a country of less than 6 million people, Denmark sure has its share of heavyweight designers. Mikkel Willumsen has been making knives since 1998. In addition to his custom work, he has design collaborations with numerous companies including WE, Kansept, Brous, Fox, and SOG.

The Bulwark FL is Willumsen’s 3rd design from SOG, following last year’s release of the Prohen and Stout. FL stands for Frame Lock, which is present on one side, but is mirrored by a black micarta scale on the other. A skeletonized pass through adds a unique aesthetic to the handle. The 3” D2 blade can be deployed both via flipper and thumb hole. The Bulwark FL retails for $129.

Also of note among SOG’s 2024 offerings of note is the upgraded SEAL XR Ti, which swaps steel liners for titanium, shaving more than an ounce from its weight. The blade has also been upgraded to MagnaCut, and the knife is made in the USA. Release date is set for April with MSRP to be announced soon.

Terrain 365 continues Prometheus Design collaboration with Invictus-AT

Terrain 365 is best known for its proprietary Terravantium™ blade material, a “dendritic cobalt super-alloy”, which is recognized for its extreme corrosion resistance. The company has announced the release of their latest collaboration with Prometheus Design Werx, the Invictus AT. There are 4 models featuring a single G10 (MSRP $379) or Carbon Fiber scale ($385) on the “show side” while the obverse is the exposed titanium frame lock. MSRP is $379. There is a full-titanium handle option available for $389.

According to company co-founder Patrick Ma, “The Invictus-ATSP is our slimmest take on this folder design. Lighter weight, easy to pocket and excellent for EDC. A high performance, technical folder for anyone who spends a lot of time in the wilderness and around any wet environments. Winter storms, steamy jungles or Southern mugginess, our AT series folders are guaranteed rustproof and will keep on cutting.”

The blade is a 3.5” drop point with a fuller and iridescent thumb studs. Because it is made from Terravantium™, the blade is 100% non-ferrous, non-magnetic, and rustproof.

Vosteed Knives releases design from YouTuber Wayne Walter

Vosteed Knives was founded by veterans of the established Chinese knife companies, who wanted to break free and strike their own path. They have been prolific in their releases, developing an extremely passionate and engaged online fanbase in the process.

Their latest release is a collaboration with someone more known for his YouTube channel, than for a traditional career arc of a knife designer. Wayne Walter of Wayne’s Sharp World has over 37k subscribers, and is known primarily for his knife and EDC gear reviews. However, reviewing knives gives one the opportunity to really refine what is the “perfect” knife for that individual.

The Vosteed Thornton will be on store shelves by the time this reaches subscribers. It is a modified wharncliffe/sheepsfoot, with a 3.18” 14C28N steel blade. It incorporates Vosteed’s Trek Lock button locking mechanism, riding on ceramic bearings as it deploys via thumb stud or front flipper. MSRP is $79.

According to Walter, the knife pays tribute to his grandfather “Wayne Thornton Walter, along with my love for aviation and travel. The design inspiration comes from a Boeing 737. In addition, my grandfather was a mechanical squad leader for aircraft in the Solomon and Philippine Islands during World War II.”

Wayne Walter’s YouTube channel is @WaynesSharpWorld. The www.vosteed.com website is the best place to find out more about the company.
