Gear Patrol: One of Buck’s Best Fixed Blade Knives Just Got a Major Steel Upgrade

With a history dating all the way back to 1902, when a Kansas blacksmith apprentice named Hoyt Buck started experimenting with better ways to temper steel, has built a rep for high-quality materials and construction. Now offering a wide range of outdoor, kitchen and EDC knives, the Post Falls, Idaho-based brand continues to iterate and innovate.

Latest example? The newest “Buck of the Month,” an exclusive limited-edition version of the popular . This one boasts significant upgrades over the standard model, most notably rocking the blade steel that’s all the rage right now … MagnaCut.

I have the 663 Scout, the little brother of the 663. Mine is 420HC I believe, and while I like the knife, I don’t know if it is worth the $225 price tag for a magnacut upgrade.
