AG Composites Stocks Upgrade the Rifle Experience

The rifle stock is important. Why? Well, outside of the trigger, the stock is the only thing you are touching during the shooting process. Therefore, it the key interface point. No matter how accurate your rifle and ammo, no matter how well your optic tracks—mistakes at the stock threaten to sabotage your outcomes. While comfort, weight, and adjustability are high on the priority list of a good stock, so too is the material that it’s comprised of. Another important feature, one that could be overlooked, is the tactile feel—and this alone may be be the reason I love AG Composites stocks.

AG Composites Stocks

AG Composites was founded in 2014 by two veteran brothers. Siblings, not just brothers in arms—one a Marine and the other an Army ranger. Their first stock was made in 2013 and they thought it was “cool.” Now they employ some 75 people.

Repeatability of the process and strength has been a key capability for AG Composites. “You can do something good one time, but can you do it 1,000 times?” stated Matt Tandy, VP of Operations and Sales.

It appears that they can do it repeatedly. AG Composites is the OEM stock source for companies such as Springfield Armory, Bergara, Remington Arms, Barrett, and Alamo Precision Arms, to name a few. Their goal is to be a trustworthy vendor to meet the needs of their customers and they do this by running manufacturing seven days a week, four of which are 24-hour shifts.

I guess I didn’t realize that I’d had considerable interaction with AG Composite stocks in the way of the manufacturers they provide for. That said, it makes sense why I like those rifle makers’ stocks, from a hunting rifle perspective.

AG Composites Visigoth & Alpine Hunter

I recently had the opportunity to evalutate two stocks in the fiberglass category, the Visigoth and the Alpine Hunter. Both are 100% fiberglass stocks and come with common construction, including an aluminum block in the forend that runs from the tip of the stock and stops at roughly 1 inch from the recoil lug. I like extra goodies on my stocks like Picatinny rails for bipod attachment and even RRS dovetail standard rails (Arca). The aluminum block enables drilling and tapping the stocks for such necessities.

The fiberglass construction is durable and rigid, and the stocks are cured up to 250-degree Fahrenheit, as well has receiving aluminum pillars which serve as the anchor for the action and bottom metal. I asked for the stocks to be inlet for Falkor’s awesome Mt-7 action, in my left-handed configuration and fitment was perfect. Precise machining of the action area and barrel channel help to ensure the fit. These stocks require no bedding and AG Composites claims customers shoot 1/2-minute groups or better without bedding. I can confirm that consistent precision is capable from these stocks, and I’ve never found any accuracy issues in mine.

On the Hunt

In My last Texas whitetail hunt my AG Composite-fitted Falkor shot great groups straight out of the rifle case from the plane ride, with Federal’s brand new 140-grain tipped, Fusion ammo. I’ve shot these stocks out to 1,000 yards with total repeatability.

The Alpine Hunter came with a pic rail up front with an integral QD stud. Of the two I prefer the comb height and overall shape of this stock, but the Visigoth incorporates a great palm swell in the grip area, easily accepts my detachable padded cheek rest from FTW, and features dual bipod studs at the front of the forend. The stocks came in different camo patterns, Prairie Terrain Camo, and Dark Timber Terrain Camo, respectively. AG has an extensive list of camo patters for you to choose from, so you’re sure to find something you like. Other items on these evaluation samples included a 1-inch Pachmeyer Decelerator pad and excellent excellent M5 bottom metal designed by AG Composites.

I’ve logged three successful hunts in the past two years with AG Composite stocks. They’ve never let me down nor left me wanting for more. Light, durable, functional, with great feel and looks—it may be time for you to take stock in AG Composites.
