Ukrainian Assassination Plot Foiled

Ukrainian Assassination Plot Foiled

A Ukrainian plot to assassinate a senior Russian military officer has been foiled. According to the agency’s branch in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the plan included using beer contaminated with a powerful British-made chemical weapon.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said that the scheme was organized by Ukraine’s military intelligence service, the HUR, which allegedly identified the target through a fabricated online persona. It used a young woman calling herself “Polina,” and FSB investigators believe the photos and videos used to establish the relationship were produced with AI and circulated for months to build the assassination target’s trust.

According to a report by RT, “Polina” reportedly arranged to send the officer a gift of British beer via an intermediary. The courier, the FSB said, was already under investigation for smuggling explosives and other contraband into Russia from Ukraine-controlled territory using drones. He was detained immediately after delivering the package.

Testing of the beer revealed two toxic agents, including what the FSB described as a British-manufactured variant of the VX nerve agent. Had the intended victim consumed it, he would have suffered a painful death within 20 minutes, the statement said. –RT

Russia has long accused Ukraine of preparing false flag chemical attacks to advance the war and gin up Western support for more weapons and financing. Officials in Moscow also repeatedly accuse Kiev of relying on terrorism as it struggles to halt Russian advances on the battlefield.

The FSB also claimed that it prevented a Ukrainian attempted bombing, this time aimed at a high-ranking official at a cemetery where his family is buried. This plot was thwarted just last week.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a nerve agent is a highly toxic chemical compound that disrupts the nervous system by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at nerve synapses. Nerve agents are the most toxic of the known chemical warfare agents.

It wasn’t stated which particular nerve agent was used in the beer meant for the Russian military officer.
