Underwood Ammo Expands To Georgia With M Facility And 120 Jobs

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA (2-minute read) — Underwood Ammo, a leading U.S.-based ammunition manufacturer, announced this week that it will open a new facility in south Georgia, marking a major investment in both the company’s future and the local economy. The new plant, located at Savannah Portside International Park in Effingham County, will cost $41 million and bring 120 new jobs to the community.

A Major Investment in Georgia’s Firearm Industry

The new facility will focus on manufacturing and assembly, creating opportunities for positions in operations, maintenance, and production. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with hiring expected to launch in 2027. For Georgia, the project represents more than just a financial investment. It reinforces the state’s growing presence in the U.S. firearm and ammunition sector.

Underwood Ammo CEO and founder Kevin Underwood emphasized the significance of the expansion, saying the project is an important step toward strengthening the company’s ability to meet growing customer demand. He also expressed gratitude to Georgia officials for their support in securing the deal.

Matt Saxon, chairman of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority, said the addition of Underwood Ammo will diversify the job market and give residents more opportunities in the industrial sector. “This project will positively impact both our workforce and our local economy,” Saxon explained.

Why This Expansion Matters

Founded in the United States, Underwood Ammo has earned a strong reputation for producing reliable handgun and rifle ammunition used for both hunting and self-defense. The decision to expand into Georgia highlights the company’s long-term growth strategy and aligns with the state’s push to attract advanced manufacturing industries.

With the Savannah Portside location offering direct access to major shipping routes, the new plant will not only support domestic demand but also position the company for potential growth in international markets.

Safety Tip: If you own firearms and ammunition, always store them securely. A quality safe or lockbox helps prevent unauthorized access while ensuring quick access when needed for lawful self-defense.
