Suspect Tries To Rob An Armed Off-Duty Correctional Deputy. It Didn’t Go Well For Him.

A 24-year-old off-duty Cook County correctional deputy fired at an armed suspect after being held up at gunpoint in Chicago’s West Loop. No arrests have been made, and police are investigating the incident.

CHICAGO, IL (1-minute read) — A 24-year-old off-duty correctional deputy for the Cook County Sheriff’s Department shot at an armed robber after being confronted at gunpoint in Chicago’s West Loop early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on the 200 block of North Morgan Street, where the deputy was approached by an armed suspect who exited a Ford SUV and demanded the officer’s belongings.

In response, the officer drew his firearm and fired multiple shots in the direction of the assailant.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deputy’s involvement and stated that the Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and detectives from Area Three are working on the case.

This incident highlights the importance of situational awareness, even in areas typically viewed as safe. While no injuries were reported, it serves as a reminder that crime can occur unexpectedly, and being prepared, especially for concealed carry permit holders, can be crucial in self-defense situations.

Safety Tip: If you carry a firearm for self-defense, make sure you are well-practiced in drawing and using it under stress. Proper training can make all the difference in a critical moment.
