Seattle Delivery Driver Defends Against Van Theft, Sends Suspect to the Hospital

SEATTLE, WA — A delivery driver defended himself early Saturday morning outside the PIVOT Apartments in Seattle’s Pine neighborhood when a suspected thief attempted to steal his van. The incident occurred around 4:45 AM.

According to a local news outlet, the driver returned to the parking area after completing a delivery and found a man inside his van, prepared to drive away. As the suspect attempted to flee the scene, he struck the driver with the vehicle. During the encounter, the driver, who was armed, pulled out his handgun and fired at the suspect.

Police reported that the driver was able to track the van a few blocks away near a downtown hotel. Officers found the vehicle parked with multiple bullet holes and the suspect still inside, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency responders from the Seattle Fire Department treated the suspect at the scene before transporting him to Harborview Medical Center.

The driver sustained minor injuries but was not reported to be seriously harmed. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.

This situation underscores the importance of understanding self-defense laws in your state. In this case, it appears the driver’s actions were justified, as no charges against him were reported. Being struck or nearly struck by a vehicle is generally considered a deadly threat, which can warrant the use of deadly force in self-defense. If you carry a firearm, it’s crucial to stay informed about local laws and seek proper training to respond effectively in life-threatening situations.
