Owner Shoots, Kills His Own Dog In Self-Defense At Park

An incident occurred in North Hills when a Belgium Dutch Shepherd attacked its owner, leading to the owner shooting the dog in self-defense. The owner, who has a concealed carry license, sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

NORTH HILLS, NY (1-minute read) — A scary event unfolded in North Hills on Thursday afternoon when a Belgium Dutch Shepherd attacked its owner at Christopher Morley Park.

The owner, a 43-year-old man, was with his dog when it suddenly turned aggressive and began a vicious attack. Fearing for his life, the man, who was carrying his firearm, fired a single shot at the dog. The dog, which was off-leash, succumbed to its injuries on the spot.

The owner sustained lacerations to his left arm and leg and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

While this incident ended tragically, it underscores the importance of responsible gun ownership and the need for individuals to be prepared for self-defense situations.

Safety Tip: Always ensure your dog is properly trained and socialized to prevent aggressive behavior. Additionally, if you own a firearm, keep it securely stored and only use it as a last resort for self-defense.
