New Caney Active Shooter: Suspect In Custody After Multiple Shot On Nottingham Road

The Brief:

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office captured a suspect following an active shooter incident in New Caney, Texas, on May 23, 2026. The shooting occurred in the Kings Colony neighborhood on Nottingham Road, leaving multiple people wounded. Law enforcement secured the scene after a two-hour standoff and neighborhood lockdown.

Detectives from the Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit are investigating the site, while medical personnel transport victims to trauma centers. Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved or the total number of injuries. Residents are advised to avoid the area during the ongoing forensic sweep.

This is a developing story.

NEW CANEY, TX — A terrifying active shooter situation disrupted a holiday weekend neighborhood in eastern Montgomery County on Saturday afternoon. Starting around 5:50 p.m., emergency dispatchers began receiving urgent calls reporting that multiple individuals had been shot in the Kings Colony neighborhood of New Caney.

A massive presence of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies and surrounding regional assets flooded the area, specifically centering their containment perimeter around the 19000 block of Nottingham Road, close to the intersection of Cambridge and Galaxy Boulevards.

The Standoff and Capture

For nearly two hours, the neighborhood was placed on high alert as heavily armed tactical units tracked the active gunman who remained at large within the immediate vicinity. Residents inside the Kings Colony subdivision were instructed to shelter in place, lock all exterior doors, and stay away from windows as police helicopters and search units mobilized.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson announced via social media that the immediate threat to the public had been resolved. Tactical units successfully closed in on the suspect, taking him into custody without further incident.

Investigation and Victim Status

While the scene has been declared secure, MCSO has not yet released the identities of the shooter or the victims. The total number of people wounded and the severity of their injuries remain undisclosed as emergency medical personnel from the Montgomery County Hospital District continue to process the scene and transport patients to regional trauma centers.

Detectives from the Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit have taken over the location on Nottingham Road, which is expected to be cordoned off for a lengthy forensic sweep. Law enforcement continues to urge external traffic to completely avoid the area to keep thoroughfares clear for emergency vehicles.

Safety Tip: An active shooter scenario in a sprawling, open-air residential neighborhood like Kings Colony presents a unique set of tactical challenges compared to a confined commercial building. In these environments, an attacker can easily leverage tree lines, vehicles, and residential blind spots to move undetected. For legally armed citizens, a suburban active threat requires a strict emphasis on “Shelter and Hardening” over hunting for the threat. Venturing outside into an uncontained perimeter puts you at an extreme risk of being misidentified by arriving swat units or caught in a fatal crossfire. Your primary focus should be locking down your home, keeping your defensive tool ready in a retention position, and waiting for the “All Clear” from uniformed deputies.
