GRAPHIC WARNING: Shooting at Miami Gas Station Leaves Two Dead, One Injured

MIAMI, FL (2-minute read) – Two men tragically lost their lives and another was critically injured following a shooting at a Miami gas station early Saturday morning. The incident led to an extensive police manhunt that culminated in the apprehension of a suspect.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Miami Police and Fire Rescue teams were dispatched to a Chevron station at the intersection of Northwest 17th Avenue and 54th Street following reports of gunfire. The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute inside the gas station between two employees and another individual.

Authorities report that the assailant drew a firearm during the altercation and fired multiple shots, hitting the two employees and a bystander. The employees, 51-year-old Shahbaz Hussain and 42-year-old Shamun Shaukat, were pronounced dead at the scene. Known affectionately by locals as “Sunny” and “Moon,” they were beloved owners of the business, remembered for their generosity and kindness.

The third victim, 57-year-old Elijah Shorter, was urgently transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in a critical condition.

Following the incident, SWAT teams and police officers established perimeters and initiated an exhaustive search for the gunman, who had fled on foot. The suspect was eventually detained late Saturday evening, bringing some closure to the shocked community mourning the loss of Hussain and Shaukat.
