The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on January 12, 2025, when 44-year-old Timothy Jones, a resident of Hale County, entered the store and attempted to carry out a robbery while brandishing a knife.
According to authorities, Jones confronted the store clerk with the weapon, but the employee, whose name has not been released, responded by drawing a firearm and shooting the suspect. Jones succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The St. Clair County Criminal Investigation Division is actively investigating the incident, and additional information may become available as the investigation progresses.
St. Clair County Sheriff Billy J. Murray confirmed the incident in a brief statement, noting that law enforcement was working to gather all relevant details. No charges have been filed against the store clerk at this time.
