Concealed Carry Holder Defends Home

A Chicago homeowner in the Chatham neighborhood critically wounded an intruder in a self-defense shooting. The suspect, a 50-year-old man, is in critical condition.

CHICAGO, IL (2-minute read) — A Chicago home invasion was thwarted after the homeowner shot and critically wounded a man who was trying to break into their residence early Sunday in the Chatham neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

A 50-year-old man attempted to break into a home around midnight when he was shot in the back by the homeowner on the 8100 block of South Champlain Avenue, according to police reports.

Paramedics arrived quickly at the scene and transported the suspect to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition due to the severity of his injuries.

Police noted that the homeowner involved in the Chicago home invasion shooting is a registered concealed carry holder. This incident highlights how crucial it is for homeowners to be prepared and capable of defending themselves in the face of imminent danger.

Firearm safety and responsible gun ownership are critical, especially for those who legally carry concealed firearms. Concealed carry holders must be aware of the legal and moral responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm. Proper training, understanding of self-defense laws, and regular practice are essential to ensure that individuals can protect themselves and their loved ones effectively.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and ensure your home is secure. Properly store firearms and educate all household members about gun safety to prevent accidents.
