Chicago Gas Station Shootout: Concealed Carrier Stops Attacker

A concealed carry license holder engaged in a self-defense shooting at an Englewood gas station in Chicago, injuring an assailant. The incident highlights the importance of concealed carry and being in control over one’s safety.

CHICAGO, IL (2-minute read) — Early Saturday morning, a concealed carry license holder was involved in a self-defense shooting at a South Side gas station in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. The incident unfolded around 1:39 a.m. in the 200 block of West 63rd Street.

According to Chicago police, a 36-year-old man retrieved a firearm from his vehicle during an argument and opened fire on a 49-year-old man. The 49-year-old, who was licensed to carry a concealed firearm, returned fire, striking the assailant in the arm.

The 36-year-old was transported to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition, where he received medical treatment. The 49-year-old was confirmed by authorities to be a licensed concealed carry holder.

Area 1 detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This event reminds us of the role that concealed carriers play in self-defense scenarios. Proper training and adherence to firearm safety protocols are crucial for those who choose to carry a firearm. It is also vital for armed citizens to be aware of the legal implications and responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm.

Firearms should be used as a last resort and only in situations where there is an immediate threat to one’s life or the safety of others.

Safety Tip: Always practice situational awareness and de-escalation techniques to avoid confrontations. Only use a firearm in self-defense when there is no other option to protect your life or the lives of others.
