14-Year-Old, Home Alone, Shoots And Kills Man Reportedly Breaking Into Home

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS — In a recent incident in east Harris County, a 14-year-old boy shot and killed a man who appeared to be attempting to break into homes. The event occurred early on a Thursday morning in the 14400 block of Brownsville Street. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, responding to a call, found the deceased man at the scene.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez explained that the man was seen tampering with the door of a house. It remains uncertain whether he managed to open the door or was merely trying to. The boy, alone at home, felt threatened and armed himself with a pistol. On encountering the unfamiliar man at his doorway, he fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him.

The man was known to the area’s homeless outreach team, having had prior contact with them. The Sheriff’s Office suggested that he might have been attempting to enter the home, possibly having seen people leave earlier.

The teenage boy and his family are cooperating with the investigation. Sheriff Gonzalez highlighted the family’s right to protect their home, noting a sign on their gate warning against intruders. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.
