(HOUSTON, TX – July 21, 2026) Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is pleased to welcome wildlife biologist, hunter, conservationist, and HSCF Dan L. Duncan Scholarship alumnus Carsten Groos as the featured guest on an upcoming episode of the Hunting Matters podcast.
A native of Austin, Texas, Groos recently earned his master’s degree in Wildlife, Aquatic, and Wildlands Science Management from Texas Tech University, where his graduate research focused on improving population monitoring and habitat management for native and exotic big game species in the Texas Hill Country. Prior to graduate school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Oklahoma while competing as a collegiate football player.
During the episode, Groos discusses the experiences that inspired his career in wildlife conservation, the impact of receiving the HSCF Dan L Duncan Scholarship, and the importance of mentoring the next generation of hunters, conservationists, and wildlife professionals.
Listeners will also gain valuable insights into his graduate research, which developed a practical and cost-effective approach to monitoring populations of white-tailed deer, axis deer, and blackbuck.
