Talladega Marksmanship Park to Hold Steyr Academy Courses in April

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced it will be hosting several informative Steyr firearm courses in April, all available at the Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama.

Steyr Arms, Inc. is a firearms manufacturer with over 150 years of innovation. A world-renowned leader, the company specializes in products that are often utilized by military and law enforcement, due to their incomparable reliability standards.

Brian Marshall will lead instruction for the Steyr courses.

As a subsidiary to their production division, Steyr Academy trains individuals on practical uses of firearms through valuable instruction, led by Brian Marshall, a 28-year veteran of local and federal law enforcement with two decades of instructor experience.

Two Steyr courses held at Talladega in April will be held on the covered firing points at the 100, 200, 300 and 600 yards, using CMP’s electronic target lines. The classes will also fire on Talladega’s unknown distance range. These courses include:

Steyr AUG Marksmanship Course – Saturday, April 13 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The course concentrates on basic operation and maintenance of the Steyr AUG and is better suited for those who want to familiarize themselves with the AUG without a “run and gun” experience. Magnified optics are suggested. Rental guns available. Class registration/reservation: $250

Training will be conducted on the electronic targets of Talladega.

Steyr AUG Operator (Carbine Course) – Saturday-Sunday, April 27-28 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The course is fast-paced option, with more focuses on practical and tactical operation of the Steyr AUG. It begins with the basics before moving on to close quarters, barricade and alternate positioning as well as malfunction practice, moving targets steel/reactive targets and fun “run and gun” drills. Class registration/reservation: $475

Additional Steyr classes offered at Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Orientation to Optics, Laser & Light – Friday, April 26 – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The class utilizes classroom and live fire to better understand the concepts for effective uses of pistol optics, lights and lasers for handguns of any manufacturer. Demo pistols are available for the course with various optics and lasers. Registration: $50

The courses will also be held on Talladega’s unknown distance range.

AUG Armorer – Friday, April 26 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This class emphasizes the inner workings of AUGs and discusses diagnosing issues, repairs and modifications through unique expert knowledge. Those who complete the course will be issued a Steyr AUG armorer certification. Tools for the class will be provided and will be available for purchase. Registration: $275, with discounts available to those attending the AUG Operator Course.

About the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Aptly named “The Home of Marksmanship,” the park is a worthy destination for firearm supporters and guests looking for practice, competition and mindful learning opportunities.

Featuring CMP electronic targets and scoring monitors that can only be found at the 500-acre facility, the park regularly hosts rifle, pistol and shotgun events all year long. The CMP’s Unknown Distance Range at Talladega also allows guests to practice their skills in the field of over 100 steel targets, out to 625 yards, while the 20-lane life-size 3D target Archery Range provides even more marksmanship fun at the park.

The public is welcome daily, all year long, to test out their firearms or to simply take a tour of the grounds. Off the firing line, the Club House holds a fully stocked Pro Shop that is always open during park hours.
