CLEARFIELD, Utah – September 2, 2025 The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) announces the upcoming release of a new three-part short video series entitled “On Location: Crossroads Project,” highlighting a recent project within its long-term partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. For nearly four decades, the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) has worked in tandem with the USDA Forest Service to develop innovative and partnership-driven approaches to active forest management that enhance wildlife habitat for big game species, such as mule deer and black-tailed deer. These approaches also help make these landscapes and communities across the Western U.S. more resilient to future wildfires.
In recent years, Congress has provided historic funding to the USDA Forest Service to address the risk of destructive wildfires and other natural resource challenges. Currently, this partnership focuses on active forest management projects that remove excessive vegetation from forests to decrease wildfire severity risks while also enhancing wildlife connectivity and habitat.
This partnership is transforming wildlife habitat, protecting communities from catastrophic wildfires, improving forest health, and improving water quality and quantity all while fostering fire-adapted landscapes that are more resilient for generations to come. To-date, over 275,000 acres of forest service lands have benefited from these efforts across the West, improving landscapes and helping deer herds in every USDA Forest Service region MDF currently works in.
The “On Location: Crossroads Project” video series showcases the power of collaboration and partnerships especially in rural communities that surround or lie within national forests. To learn how taxpayer dollars are creating lasting and positive change, tune into the three-part video series released on Tuesdays beginning September 9, on the Mule Deer Foundation YouTube channel: @MuleDeerFoundationMedia, or read about this project in corresponding blog posts released on the Mule Deer Foundation’s website: MDF News.
