Marcus Klemp and Nathalia Tobar Crowned Air Pistol Champions at 2025 USA Shooting Nationals

By Brittany Nelson, USAS Public Relations & Communications Manager

ANNISTON AL, (June 19, 2025) – After two exciting finals Marcus Klemp and Nathalia Tobar claimed the men’s and women’s air pistol champion titles June 16 at the 2025 USA Shooting National Championships in Anniston, Alabama, hosted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Olympians, Paralympians, and newcomers shot side-by-side, highlighting the inclusive and competitive spirit of the shooting sports community. After two days of qualification relays, the top eight men and top eight women advanced to their respective finals, each vying for a spot on the podium.

Klemp delivered a dominant performance, qualifying for both the men’s and junior men’s finals and capturing gold in each, securing two national champion titles in a single day. Klemp, a pistol athlete at The Ohio State University, has had a very successful 2025 season thus far. He was nominated to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games Air Pistol Team based on his overall aggregate score at the 2025 USA Shooting Junior Olympic Championships. He also captured silver in men’s air pistol at the competition.

Klemp will be headed with to Asunción, Paraguay, this August to represent Team USA in Men’s 10m Air Pistol alongside teammate Nathan Lim. Klemp, of Missoula, Montana, is no stranger to the international shooting scene. He has competed at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships in 2023 and 2024.

Nathalia Tobar earned her national champion title in Women’s 10m Air Pistol after a thrilling final, with Suman Sanghera taking silver and Olivia Hur claiming bronze. She earned bronze at nationals in 2024 and returned this year to claim the gold. Tobar’s air pistol game has been steadily improving as her 2025 championship title comes just months after she broke the national record.

Tobar’s shooting career and love for the sport is rooted in her family’s legacy. Her father is a four time Olympian and world champion, and her brother is a Tokyo 2020 Olympian. Tobar, a native of Cali, Colombia, adds this year’s gold to her already extensive medal collection.

Sanghera, who took silver in the open women’s final, went on to claim the Junior Women’s 10m Air Pistol National Champion title. The Great Falls, Virginia, native was also nominated to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games Air Pistol Team based on her overall aggregate score at the  2025 USA Shooting Junior Olympic Championships. Sanghera’s success exceeds just stateside competitions. She recently earned two medals at the 2025 ISSF Junior Championships of the Americas and has represented Team USA at numerous international competitions.

The 2025 National Championships featured a strong turnout of Paralympic air pistol athletes. Two finals were held, one in the Women’s P2 SH1 event and one in the Men’s P1 SH1 event.

Leah Groggett, of San Antonio, Texas, topped the podium in Women’s P2. Michael Tagliapietra, a Rio 2016 Paralympian from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, earned gold in Men’s P1. See all Paralympic results from the 2025 National Championships here.

Medals were also awarded for U18, U15, senior, and international categories. See all results from the 2025 competition here. View photos from the competition here.
