HSCF Convention Chair Derek Ham Featured on Hunting Matters Podcast

HOUSTON, TX – December 15, 2025 — The Hunting Matters podcast, presented by Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) welcomes Derek Ham — outdoorsman, ranch real estate specialist, and 2026 HSCF Convention Chair — as a featured guest in its latest episode.

Born in the Texas Panhandle and raised in Houston, Ham’s life has been shaped by a deep respect for land, wildlife, and the hunting tradition. From college in Austin to a career in the Los Angeles music industry, and later running a commercial construction company in Houston, Ham carried his passion for the outdoors through every chapter of life.

Today, Ham specializes in ranch and recreational property, allowing him to spend much of his time outside while helping others find land that supports both conservation and meaningful outdoor experiences. He shares how the lessons passed down by his father sparked a lifelong appreciation for hunting as a tool for bonding, healing, and stewardship.

In this episode, Ham also offers insight into the current ranch real estate climate, where to begin when searching for hunting property, and why organizations like Houston Safari Club Foundation serve as a critical resource for both new and experienced hunters.

Listeners will also hear the story behind Ham’s remarkable Alaska adventure, where he took the No. 11 all-time Pope and Young moose with a recurve bow, along with reflections on international hunts in Newfoundland and Labrador, Spain, New Zealand, and Greenland.

In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Ham serves on the HSCF Board of Directors and Finance Committee and has previously chaired both the Grants and Clay Shooting programs, continuing his commitment to conservation and education.

Hunting Matters is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major podcast platforms, as well as at https://hscfdn.org/hunting-matters-podcast/.
