High Attendance, Close Scores Mark CMP’s National Three-Position Air Rifle Postals

The results are in for the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) 2023-2024 National Three-Position Postal Competition. The annual sporter and precision junior air rifle event saw over 1,550 participants in total through the course of the postal period, which ran from October 2023 to January 2024.

“We had a fantastic year for the CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Postal, with near-record participation and very competitive scores,” said Katie Harrington, CMP air gun manager and match director of the CMP Three-Position series. “We are looking forward to this next phase of the competition at the CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Regionals, coming up in April.”

Similarly, the first three places of the precision class were also separated by x-count, with Kamdyn McFarland, 15, of Yellowstone Rifle Club in Montana, acquiring an aggregate score of 298-27X.

About the CMP Three-Position Postal Competition:

The competition is designed for sporter and precision junior marksmen involved in 4-H, Scouts, American Legion, club or JROTC air rifle programs. During the Postal match, competitors receive targets by mail to record shots at their home ranges in each of the three positions: prone, standing and kneeling. Targets are then submitted back to CMP headquarters for official scoring by staff members. State Championships, also part of the CMP Three-Position Air Rifle series, are conducted by CMP State Directors or specially appointed Match Directors. The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. It is dedicated to firearm safety and marksmanship training and to the promotion of marksmanship competition for citizens of the United States.
