Gill Captures First Bass Pro Tour Win

Irving, TX – Drew Gill finally put it all together. The GSM Outdoors pro captured his 1st career Bass Pro Tour victory this past weekend on the Chowan River, rallying during the Championship Round on Sunday.

“This win means everything,” said Gill, who admitted that this was something that felt unattainable earlier in his career. “I knew I’d have to beat some of the best in the world to make checks, but the idea of beating all of them was something that used to feel insurmountable. Being able to find and manage fish, as well as execute when it mattered, made this sort of an ‘A-ha’ moment for me.”

The 22-year-old pro from Illinois did most of his damage on the new Big Bite Nekorama. “I caught them on the Nekorama until I ran out,” said Gill about the 7’’ worm. “Although it was designed for the Neko rig, the concave back allows for great hook penetration on a drop shot. The flat side of the Nekorama also gives it a special shimmy that really seemed to make it irresistible on that final day.”

With the win, Gill now sits in 4th place in the BPT AOY rankings. Crispin Powley, GSM Senior VP of Fishing, believes it’s just the beginning for Gill.

“Drew is a fantastic young man that represents everything and everyone that he supports incredibly well,” said Powley. “On the water, he is equally wise beyond his years and has the potential to win them all. There’s been a short list of anglers in my lifetime that I’ve said that about, and he just so happens to be the youngest. He’s a valued member of our family and we couldn’t be more proud.”
