25-Year-Old Shoots Three Armed Boys, Ages 12 to 15, During Christmas Eve Robbery Attempt in Harris County, TX

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A robbery attempt by a group of teens on Christmas evening ended with three boys aged 12 to 15 hospitalized after being shot by the intended victim, according to Harris County authorities. The incident occurred at the Willow Plaza Apartments on North Houston Rosslyn Road near Smiling Wood.

The 25-year-old man, who was returning home from a Christmas party with his girlfriend, was reportedly ambushed by at least four boys as he exited his vehicle. His girlfriend, who had fallen asleep during the drive, recounted that her boyfriend was preparing to carry her inside when the group surrounded them. The man initially mistook the robbery attempt for a prank due to the ages of the assailants.

One of the boys, a 12-year-old, is in critical condition. Witnesses described efforts to keep the injured child responsive while awaiting emergency services.

The man, who was armed, used his firearm to defend himself and his girlfriend from the immediate threat. Investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the man cooperated fully with their inquiries and is not currently facing charges.

Residents of the area expressed a mix of sadness and disbelief, noting the tragedy of such young individuals engaging in violent criminal activity. “Being that age, you’re supposed to be with your family,” said Monique Robledo, a resident of Willow Plaza.

Self-Defense Tip: Situational Awareness Is Critical

This incident underscores the importance of situational awareness, especially when exiting a vehicle in unfamiliar or poorly lit areas. The victim was immediately surrounded after opening his door, leaving little time to react. Scanning the surroundings for potential threats before exiting and keeping your vehicle locked until you’re ready to move can provide a critical edge in such scenarios.

While the ages of the assailants are deeply tragic, the victim acted within his rights to protect himself and his girlfriend from an imminent threat. This serves as a reminder that violent crime can occur in any setting and often without warning. Staying vigilant and prepared can make all the difference.
