Deputy Injured In Negligent Shooting At Deltona Walmart

A Volusia County deputy was accidentally injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Walmart in Deltona, FL. She received immediate aid from fellow deputies and was later transported to a hospital.

DELTONA, FL (1-minute read) — A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg earlier today in an incident at Walmart, located at 101 Howland Blvd., Deltona. The injury occurred around 1 p.m., and fellow deputies on the scene promptly provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and her injuries are not life-threatening.

Authorities have not released detailed information about how the negligent discharge occurred, but such incidents highlight the critical importance of firearm safety protocols, particularly in high-pressure environments. It is common for law enforcement personnel to carry firearms daily, making strict adherence to training and handling guidelines essential for avoiding such injuries.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has expressed relief that the deputy is expected to recover fully and thanked first responders for their swift action.

Safety Tip: Always ensure your firearm is holstered securely and practice safe handling techniques, especially during routine or high-stress situations.
