Man with Mental Health Issues Fatally Shot in Self-Defense After Showing Up at Home with Gun

DAVIESS COUNTY, IN — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in what appears to be a self-defense incident on State Road 257, just north of the East Fork of the Wabash River bridge.

According to local media, deputies responded to a call involving an armed individual at the residence of David Goble. The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Kevin Wilson from Washington, Indiana, reportedly pulled into Goble’s driveway armed with a gun.

Wilson, who suffered from mental health issues, began an argument with Goble. Tensions escalated when Wilson allegedly pointed his firearm at Goble and his home. In response, Goble fired two shots at Wilson, striking him. Wilson retreated to his vehicle but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Authorities stated that there is no known connection between the two men, leading to questions about the motive behind the incident. The case remains under investigation, and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office will forward its findings to the prosecutor’s office for further review.

Preparing for the Unexpected

This incident underscores the importance of being prepared for unpredictable threats, even in situations where there is no apparent connection between the attacker and the defender. It appears that Wilson’s mental health struggles may have played a role, highlighting the fact that danger can arise unexpectedly, sometimes without a clear motive.

In any confrontation, remaining calm, being aware of your surroundings, and acting decisively can be crucial to ensuring your safety. Always ensure that you’re familiar with local laws regarding the use of force, and remember that the key to effective self-defense is readiness for the unexpected.
