U.S. Navy Should Target Carriers in Fight With China

The article argues the U.S. Navy should stop treating American carriers as only assets to defend and instead target Chinese carriers as a strategic vulnerability. It says Beijing is building a carrier force that can be threatened through submarines, land-based missiles, air-launched weapons, cyber, and electronic warfare. The core proposal is to “flip the script” and make Chinese carriers face the same kind of persistent risk China aims at U.S. flattops. The piece’s main takeaway is that deterrence in the Pacific would improve if the U.S. and allies built more submarines, unmanned systems, and missile capacity.
