Aaron Voigt first blipped onto the firearm industry radar screen seven years ago with his revolutionary LifeCard. The company would follow up the pistol with the equally unique Pivot folding rifle. Now Voigt has moved on, selling his interest in Trailblazer Firearms earlier this year. His new venture is Dark Mountain Arms, with its debut product, the Stowaway.

“I’m still relatively new to the firearms industry, although, after seven years at Trailblazer I’ve learned my way around and met some great people,” Voigt said. “Last time it took me seven years from concept to launch. This time it’s less than a year.”

The Stowaway comprises a multi-caliber, bolt-action, takedown that comes in both rifle and pistol form. The initial offerings chamber the wonderful 5.7x28mm cartridge. Future planned chamberings include 9mm, 4.6×30, .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 Mach2 and .17 HMR.

The Stowaway rifle weighs in just under three pounds, with the large-format pistol obviously even smaller and lighter. Each come with a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle. The pistol sports a 5-inch barrel sans stock. Voigt plans an SBR version in the future as well.

The packable takedown design enables removal of the barrel for optimal stowing. Each comes with threaded barrels to accommodate suppressors or other muzzle devices. Caliber changes will necessitate only a bolt face and barrel swap. The guns come optics-ready via a Picatinny rail.

American-made, the outdoorsmen/patriotic lines run deep in the Stowaway. Voigt grew up one of six kids, raised in the outdoors growing up hunting the mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. Better still, he is a veteran of the Marine Corps and Army.
