First Look: Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Gunlocker

0

Hornady Security, the security and safety storage division of the Nebraska-based bullet and cartridge company, has just added a new item to its RAPiD safe product line: the Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Gunlocker. This new gun locker provides a compact locking solution for smaller spaces such as under a bed, closet or the back of a vehicle and provides a better alternative to simply hiding an unsecured long gun.

The new RAPiD Safe AR Gunlocker is available in two different sizes and can accommodate up to three different long guns, either shotguns or carbines of “tactical” length. (Sporting rifles or shotguns with full size and full-length barrels may not fit). Both AR Gunlocker offerings measure 42 inches, but the XL version is built wider to accommodate more internal storage volume. Externally, these units are made from heavy-duty 16-gauge steel and count on four different hardened internal locking lugs. The body of the AR Gunlocker also has pre-drilled holes and a security cable for ease of mounting to other surfaces and/or tethering to fixed solid points.

Like other products in the Hornady RAPiD Safe line, accessibility works off an RFID based signature that is detected by the electronic locking system. Users can use wrist bands, key fobs or RFID compatible stickers as “touchless” keys to open the lock. For keypad entry, users can program a four to six digit numerical code. Each RAPiD safe container can be programmed to detect up to five different RFID signatures. In addition, the AR Gunlocker also counts on an electronic keypad and a set of mechanical analog keys.
