3 Base Models Offer Something for Everyone

Popular among law enforcement, military, and civilians alike, the FN 509 series offers multiple models, providing something for every shooter. The series delivers maximum control and recoil management via excellent ergonomics and grip texturing. Available in full-size, midsize, and compact, the 509 is comprised of four packages, including standard, MRD, Tactical, and Edge.

The FN 509 Series

Building on a polymer grip module with replaceable steel frame/slide rails, the 509 provides excellent ergonomics and handling characteristics. Likewise, the grip angle, coupled with enhanced texturing and the overall balance of the pistol, helps minimize felt recoil. Additionally, two included interchangeable backstraps let you dial in the fit for enhanced control and accuracy.

Available in your choice of full-size, midsize, and compact, the slide features forward and rear cocking serrations for positive manipulation. However, on the Edge model, the forward cocking serrations are replaced with slide lightening cuts.

Housed within the slide is a cold hammer-forged stainless-steel barrel with recessed target crown and polished chamber and feed ramp. Chambered in 9mm, barrel lengths range from 3.7-, 4-, and 4.5-inches, based on the model. The barrel on the Tactical model is also threaded for running a suppressor or other muzzle device.

Sitting atop the slide are combat-style sights, with the MRD, Tactical, and Edge models featuring suppressor height sights. Correspondingly, the Tactical and Edge models also include a sight-protecting slide cap with raised sight wings. This protects the rear sight alignment if the pistol is dropped or jostled. Likewise, it provides a textured ramp for racking the slide against a surface, like a belt loop, pant pocket, or boot.

In addition, the MRD, Tactical, and Edge models all feature an optic cut for running your favorite red dot sight. These models all utilize FN’s Low Profile Optics Mounting System (LPOMS), considered one of the best mounting systems available. Utilizing plate adapters, the system allows for direct mounting of most major pistol red dot optics.

Available in black or FDE, the 509 pistols have a capacity of 10+1 to 17+1, depending on the model and state laws. Additionally, the entire series features a completely ambidextrous slide stop and magazine release.

Running Compensated

Delivering enhanced control, the 509 CC Edge features an auto-indexing FN compensator. According to the company, this reduces muzzle flip by 25%, enabling faster, more accurate shots at speed. The compensator provides easy maintenance via its unique takedown, which only requires pushing it in and twisting 90 degrees. No tools are required.

Soon to join the CC Edge in the compensated 509 family are the CC Edge XL and Compact MRD.
