A drone attack on Moscow was successfully repelled by the Russian military. At least four Ukrainian drones were downed while heading to Moscow in the early hours of Sunday, according to Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

The Defense Ministry said some 35 UAVs were intercepted overnight, as Kyiv’s forces continue to target Russian infrastructure and border towns, according to a report by RT.

“The Russian Defense Ministry’s air defenses in the Domodedovo district have repelled a drone attack on Moscow,” Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed on Telegram around 4:40 am Sunday morning, noting that two hostile targets were downed in the area. Two more UAVs were intercepted in the Ramensky and Stupino districts, Sobyanin added an hour later.

Unfortunately, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate. Starting Tuesday, Ukrainian military forces attempted to breach the Russian border. They took to attacking multiple locations along its frontier with Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions, coupled with a sharp uptick in suicide-drone attacks and waves of UAVs apparently targeting oil refineries and fuel depots.

Authorities in the Kaluga, Oryol, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kursk, and Belgorod regions also reported drone downings overnight, with no casualties or major damage on the ground. In total, Russian air defenses had intercepted some 35 drones by 7 am, according to the Defense Ministry.

Earlier this week, Ukraine also bombed diesel tanks near the Zaporizhzhia power plant in Russia.

Previously, Russia had warned that Ukraine intends to use a “dirty bomb” on the power plant at some point.

If this comes to fruition, it will be likely that the West and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) countries will be involved.

Active combat also continued to rage to the northwest of Donetsk near the villages Orlovka, Tonenkoye and Berdychi, where the Russian military continues its push following the liberation of the town of Avdeevka last month. The ramping up of the attacks comes as Russia enters its 2024 presidential election season.
