Israeli Airstrike In Syria Kills Civilians As War Advances

The Middle East is increasingly unstable, as the war advances. Israeli airstrikes have killed civilians in Syria, not long after the United States assisted in bombing Yemen, to prevent terrorism in the Red Sea.

U.S. Has Launched Strikes Against Yemen

An Israeli airstrike on a residential district of Damascus on Tuesday evening killed at least seven civilians and injured 11 more, according to Syrian media reports. Three missiles launched by Israeli planes over the Golan Heights struck the neighborhood of Mezzeh, causing “significant material damage,” state news agency SANA reported, citing a military source, as reported by RT.

The building targeted was a short distance away from the Iranian embassy in Damascus. According to the Saudi outlet Al-Hadath, as quoted by the Israeli media, the missiles reportedly targeted a Hezbollah official in charge of Unit 4400, which allegedly supplies the Lebanese Shia militia with weapons from Iran. –RT

Israel has not officially commented on the airstrike as of now. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) jets have struck Syria repeatedly over the past several years, in what Damascus and others have denounced as flagrant violations of Syrian sovereignty. On the rare occasions when West Jerusalem acknowledged the attacks, it claimed the right of pre-emptive self-defense against Iran, alleging the latter was arming Hezbollah and other “proxies” that posed a threat to the Jewish state.

No retaliatory strikes have ever made much more than a ding on Israel either. Most are described as “lackluster” and “symbolic” more than anything else. Last Tuesday, Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel, in what Tehran said was a response to the killing of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. It allegedly did minimal damage, and no injuries or deaths were reported. But Iran continues to warn that any further aggression” would be met with reprisal.

Israel has threatened a serious and significant strike in response but has not yet launched one.

Hezbollah’s “Battle of Reckoning” Is Lackluster At Best

Nonetheless, it’ll only take one that actually does damage, (such as the attack on October 7th last year) to really push this war beyond the point of no return.

Tuesday’s airstrike also comes as Israeli ground forces continue their operation in Lebanon, escalating a campaign against Hezbollah that began last month with air and missile strikes.
