Victims Forced to Unlock Phones at Gunpoint in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL (3-minute read) – In a bold series of events, several Chicagoans were forced at gunpoint to unlock their phones and access their banking apps. The incidents, including one captured on camera, occurred within a span of just half an hour in Bucktown early Thursday morning.

Four armed suspects, emerging from a gray Dodge Durango SUV lacking visible registration, confronted five individuals in different locations across Bucktown. Brandishing semiautomatic firearms equipped with extended magazines, they demanded personal items such as wallets, keys, and cellphones. Shockingly, in some cases, victims were compelled to change phone passwords and log into their banking apps while under the immediate threat.

The robbery spree began at 6 a.m. on West Charleston Street, targeting a 21-year-old male pedestrian. This pattern of aggressive theft continued through North Hoyne and Leavitt Streets, culminating on North Oakley Avenue by 6:27 a.m., with victims ranging from 21 to 64 years of age.

As investigations continue, Chicago Police urge anyone with information to assist in capturing these dangerous criminals.

Firearm Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and consider carrying your firearm in a manner that allows for both security and accessibility.
