The aircraft sustained multiple bullet holes, and a flight attendant suffered minor injuries. The plane was diverted to the Dominican Republic, where it landed safely.
In a related incident, a JetBlue flight departing Port-au-Prince for New York was also hit by gunfire. Post-flight inspections revealed bullet damage to the aircraft’s exterior. No injuries were reported in this case.
These events led to the temporary closure of Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Several airlines responded by suspending flights to and from Haiti. JetBlue announced a suspension of all flights to Haiti through December 2, 2024. Spirit Airlines also suspended its flights, with the duration of the suspension pending further evaluation. American Airlines canceled flights to Haiti until November 18, 2024.
