Phoenix Road Rage Turns Deadly as Gunfire Erupts in Parking Lot, Killing Father and Daughter

PHOENIX, AZ — A tragic shooting unfolded in a crowded South Phoenix parking lot on Saturday afternoon, leaving two people dead and two others seriously injured. The incident, which occurred around 2:45 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road, stemmed from a physical altercation between two drivers.

According to ABC15 Arizona, 28-year-old Tyrone Dee Chilly and 30-year-old Quincy Jay Polk exited their respective vehicles and became involved in a physical fight. Inside Polk’s SUV at the time were a woman and three children. Following the altercation, both men returned to their vehicles. Chilly then retrieved a handgun and fired multiple rounds toward the driver’s seat of the SUV, striking multiple occupants.

The woman in the front passenger seat reportedly returned fire before collapsing. In total, four people inside the SUV were shot—Polk, the woman, and two of the children. Polk died at the scene, and 8-year-old Envy Cardenas succumbed to her injuries the following day. One child in the SUV was not harmed.

Authorities stated that a third nearby vehicle was struck by gunfire, though no occupants were injured. After the shooting, Chilly called 911 and reported the incident himself. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and released the following day.

Chilly is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of endangerment. Court records indicate Chilly has a prior criminal history, including DUI offenses.

Family members of the victims are mourning the sudden and violent loss. “I don’t have just one funeral. I got two funerals,” said Joesra Martin, Polk’s mother. “You had a fight. Just go home, leave it alone.”

A GoFundMe has been created by the family to assist with funeral expenses. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.

This incident is a sobering reminder of how quickly violent encounters can escalate. Engaging in road rage confrontations or physical altercations with strangers can lead to irreversible outcomes. In any self-defense context, avoiding conflict when possible remains the safest and most responsible course of action.
