Massive Protests In DC As World Waits For Trump To Take Office

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Washington, D.C., ahead of President-elect Trump’s inauguration, focusing on gender justice and other causes during the rebranded “People’s March.”

LISTEN TO THIS STORY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (2-minute read) — Thousands of protesters, primarily women, convened in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to demonstrate against President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration. While significantly smaller than the 2017 Women’s March, the newly rebranded “People’s March” drew participants to advocate for gender justice, democracy, immigration reform, and local issues.

The event began with a “gender justice” rally in Franklin Park, where demonstrators emphasized bodily autonomy before marching toward the Lincoln Memorial for the main gathering. Meanwhile, two other groups held events near the White House, focusing on democracy and local Washington issues. Protesters carried signs with messages like “Feminists v. Fascists” and “People over politics,” while vendors sold flags and buttons supporting the cause.

IT HAS BEGUN‼️

The Deep State foot soldiers have begun to organize and protest in DC.

This was to be expected.

DO NOT ENGAGE‼️

Better yet, do not even put yourself into that situation.

The crowd will grow and they WILL become violent, where you will then have no choice but… pic.twitter.com/CMMYVm2x1g

Despite the passion of the marchers, the overall enthusiasm behind the resistance movement appeared diminished. Many progressive voters expressed fatigue after Trump’s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, a campaign that saw him secure both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Law enforcement maintained a strong presence but reported no significant violence, unlike the 2017 inauguration protests that saw widespread property damage and mass arrests. Officials expect a calm lead-up to Monday’s swearing-in ceremony for Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance, which has been moved indoors due to cold weather. Trump’s agenda for the weekend includes a reception, a fireworks show, and a “Make America Great Again” rally where he is scheduled to speak.

Safety Tip: Always practice situational awareness when attending large gatherings or demonstrations. Be mindful of exits, monitor crowd behavior, and follow law enforcement instructions if needed.
