Man Shoots, Kills Self While Putting Handgun In Shorts; Why Holsters Matter

A man in Osceola County tragically died after negligently shooting himself while attempting to place a firearm into his shorts. The incident underscores the critical importance of firearm safety and proper handling and carry techniques to prevent such occurrances.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL (1-minute read) — A tragedy occurred in Osceola County on Saturday when a man fatally shot himself while handling a firearm. Deputies responded to a home on Caribbean View Terrace near Kissimmee, where they found Harvey Lee Brady, 24, lying on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.

Officials reported that Brady was transferring the firearm from the kitchen counter to his shorts when the negligent discharge occurred. Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures, and Brady was transported to Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the event was not intentional and was isolated. The investigation revealed no indications of foul play, and the Lake County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm findings.

This tragic incident highlights the critical importance of proper firearm safety. Carrying or securing firearms without a holster increases the risk of negligent discharges significantly.
