CHARLOTTE, NC (3-minute read) — A Charlotte juvenile has been arrested after authorities uncovered multiple firearms in his possession, including a stolen gun, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
On February 5, 2025, police received a tip that a minor was in possession of multiple firearms. Following an investigation, officers executed a search of the juvenile’s residence, where they found two firearms and a drum magazine hidden in his room. One of the guns was confirmed as stolen.
The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with possession of a handgun by a minor and possession of a stolen firearm. Further investigation revealed that he had purchased the firearm from another juvenile, highlighting a concerning trend of illegal gun transactions among minors. Law enforcement officials stress that keeping firearms out of the hands of young individuals is essential to preventing violent crime.
As a result, a Secure Custody Order (SCO) was approved, and the juvenile was transported to the Cabarrus County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The Importance of Securing Firearms
Gun owners must take responsibility for safely securing their firearms to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands, especially juveniles. Unsecured firearms pose a significant risk, not only to the household but to the broader community. The use of gun safes, trigger locks, and secure storage solutions can help prevent unauthorized access and reduce the likelihood of firearms being stolen or misused. Ensuring that firearms are properly secured can prevent tragedies and criminal activities, reinforcing the importance of responsible gun ownership.
Safety Tip: Always store firearms in a locked safe or secure location, separate from ammunition, to prevent unauthorized access—especially by minors.
