CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — During an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in Chicago’s Loop area on Saturday morning, an employee, who is also a licensed concealed carry gun owner, shot the 27-year-old assailant. The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. in the first block of North Wabash.

The would-be robber tried to break into a jewelry case but was confronted and shot by the store employee, sustaining injuries to his buttocks and abdomen. The injured robber fled the scene and reached the Washington-Wabash L station, where police found him in a train car. He was then transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The Chicago Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation.
