Gun Works, Not Protective Order, To Stop Armed Ex After Home Invasion

In a harrowing domestic violence incident in Cumberland County, three people, including the aggressor, were critically injured when a man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

HOPE MILLS, NC (4-minute read) — A domestic violence dispute turned violent early Tuesday in Hope Mills, NC, resulting in three individuals being critically injured. Around 3:15 a.m., authorities were alerted to a shooting at a residence on Drypoint Lane, where they discovered victims of a violent home invasion.

The incident involved Terrance Kerr, 30, who forcibly entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old A’Naya Stancil, despite ongoing efforts by her family to protect her from him. Wanda Williams, Stancil’s mother, expressed her longstanding concerns about Kerr’s behavior, highlighting a painful backdrop of threats and harassment that culminated in this violent encounter. Williams, grieving the recent loss of another daughter to a car accident, has been fiercely protective, even as Stancil took legal measures like obtaining a restraining order.

A’Naya’s coworker, 38-year-old Anthony David, was staying with her as a protective measure. When Kerr used his key to enter the house, he started shooting, prompting David to return fire in defense. All three individuals were hit during the exchange and were subsequently hospitalized with critical injuries.

Terrance Kerr, now in police custody at the hospital, faces charges including attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and robbery with a firearm. The local community is in shock as they grapple with the reality of this severe domestic violence scenario, prompting discussions on the effectiveness of restraining orders and the urgent need for protective measures for potential victims.

The investigation continues, and additional charges against Kerr are anticipated as the full scope of his actions becomes clearer. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of robust protective interventions, and the need for self-defense.

Safety Tip: Always take threats seriously and utilize all available legal and personal protection strategies. Ensure secure and responsible firearm ownership and handling to safeguard against unauthorized access and use.
