Charlotte Shooting Suspects Caught, 1 Entered U.S. Illegally

Charlotte shooting suspects Carlos Roberto Diaz and a 16-year-old, have been arrested in connection with five shootings in Charlotte, NC. The shootings are linked through forensic evidence and witness descriptions.

CHARLOTTE, NC (2-minute read) — Authorities in Charlotte have arrested two suspects in connection with a series of five shootings that have plagued the area recently. One of the suspects is believed to be in the United States illegally after crossing the Southern Border.

Charlotte Shooting Suspects

18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz and a 16-year-old juvenile whose name has not been released, were taken into custody following an investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police Chief Johnny Jennings emphasized the seriousness of these crimes, noting that they endangered the community’s safety.

“These were brazen crimes. They put our community at risk and created a safety hazard,” Chief Jennings stated at a press briefing.

Carlos Roberto Diaz faces numerous charges, including first-degree murder, shooting into occupied vehicles and dwellings, felony conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

A source told local media that Diaz, who is from Honduras, had crossed the southern border and was illegal at the time of his arrest.

The juvenile suspect is currently charged with first-degree murder, with additional charges anticipated. The 16-year-old reportedly confessed to police that he and Diaz were responsible for the shootings following a party they attended together. This admission led to Diaz’s arrest, with assistance from the FBI.

Investigators believe the five shootings are connected, based on witness descriptions of the suspects’ vehicle, the shell casings found at the scenes, and the timing and locations of the incidents. Forensic tests have confirmed connections between at least three of the shootings, and testing is ongoing to determine if the other incidents are linked as well.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to investigate these incidents to gather more details and ensure the safety of the community.

Safety Tip: Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. If something feels off or you notice suspicious behavior, contact local authorities immediately. Being vigilant can help prevent potential dangers and ensure your safety.
